Who are the top contenders to win the NBA championship this season

Odds to win 2021-22 NBA season

With the NBA trade deadline behind us, the team rosters are all set for the second part of the season and the playoffs.

Things look quite different compared to the beginning of the season as some teams have made a significant improvement while others have failed badly. The Los Angeles Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets were considered as the top contenders to win the championship but at this point, they are not even in the top five. The Lakers did major moves in the offseason in order to surround LeBron James with as much talent that can help him win another championship but at this moment even their playoff appearance is in jeopardy. With Kevin Durant being injured and Kyrie Irving playing only in road games, the Brooklyn Nets have fallen to the middle of the conference and are far from the preseason projections. Still, there is hope for them as they traded James Harden to Philadelphia and Ben Simmons is coming to Brooklyn.

Anyway, here are the top five teams at the moment that has serious chances of winning the NBA championship this year.

1. Phoenix Suns – 5.50

Phoenix SunsThe Phoenix Suns have the best record in the NBA and they will probably finish the season on the top. They went for a franchise-best 18-game winning streak earlier in the season finishing the month of November without any loss.

These Suns were two games away from winning the championship last year and they are determined to use that experience and go all the way this year.
Devin Booker is one of the best scorers in the league averaging over 25 points per game.

Chris Paul leads the league in assists with more than 10 per game and as usual, is making his teammates much better.
Mikal Bridges was signed to a $90 million contract extension in the offseason and many thought the Suns overpaid him. At this point, Bridges has proved he is with every penny of his contract and often is the player who makes the difference.

Monty Williams knows how to use what he has and the Suns are the top contender to win this year. There is no team that can defeat them in a best-of-seven series at the moment.

2. Golden State Warriors – 5.50

Golden State WarriorsAfter a couple of unsuccessful years, the Golden State Warriors are finally back and their dynasty might be restored in the playoffs.

Steph Curry is still one of the top scorers in the league and Klay Thompson is slowly but surely getting to his form after a two-year absence. Andrew Wiggins has made a huge leap as he is averaging a8 points per game and will make his All-Star debut. Unfortunately, James Wiseman has been injured for the most part of the season and the Warriors are vulnerable in the paint especially when Draymond Green is out. Jordan Poole is one of the favorites to win the Most Improved Player award this year as he is often the Warriors’ top scorer.

The Warriors have kept the core of their championship teams and coach Steve Kerr certainly knows how to lead this team to potentially another victorious playoff.

3. Brooklyn Nets – 5.50

Brooklyn NetsThe Brooklyn Nets are currently on a 10-game losing streak and in 8th place in the Eastern Conference but are still among the top three favorites to win the title this year.

The reasons for that is Kevin Durant and the current trade the Nets made with the Sixers. Kevin Durant is the leading scorer of the NBA and the main reason for the Nets’ current struggle is that he is out with an injury. But once he got back, the Nets will be among the best teams in the league again. The Nets sent James Harden to the Sixers who didn’t have a big impact in Brooklyn and got in return three valuable players.

Ben Simmons has a lot to prove, Andre Drummond is a four-time rebounding champion and Seth Curry is an excellent three-point shooter. All this makes the Nets a real contender.

4. Milwaukee Bucks – 7.50

Milwaukee Bucks logoThe Milwaukee Bucks went through many ups and downs this season as most of the key players were injured at some point.

Holiday and Khris Middleton are back at 100% and Brook Lopez who has played only one game this season is probably done for the year. The Bucks front office made a great move before the trade deadline as they traded for Serge Ibaka who will be a great asset for the Bucks coming off the bench. Giannis Antetokounmpo is playing another fantastic season and is ready to take his game to another level when the playoff time comes.

With the Greek Freak at his best, the Bucks can beat anybody even the Phoenix Suns.

5. Philadelphia 76ers – 8.00

Philadelphia 76ers logoThe Philadelphia 76ers made the biggest move before the trade deadline as they finally unloaded Ben Simmons who refused to play since the season started and brought in the three-time scoring champion James Harden.

It is a big question how Joel Embiid and James Harden will work together but if they pair up well, the Sixers may go all the way this year. Joel Embiid is the favorite to win the MVP award as he is absolutely unstoppable. The center is averaging almost 30 points and more than 10 rebounds per game while shooting 50% from the field and 36% from the three-point line. James Harden has not played as well as he usually does this season but with the move to Philly, he will probably be on his recognizable level.

The Sixers will need some time to adapt to the personnel change but will definitely be a title contender when the playoff time comes.
