It is clash of the table-toppers in game number 57 in this 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) take on Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. These two new teams have taken the IPL by storm this season and are at the top of the points table.
LSG are on a three-match winning streak and have won seven out of their 10 matches. A win in this game will take them to the top of the points table. Their batting has largely depended on skipper KL Rahul but the likes of Quinton de Kock and Deepak Hooda have chipped in nicely. But they will expect more with the bat from the all-rounders Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis.
With the ball, it’s been a more rounded effort. Avesh Khan and Mohsin Khan have been very impressive while the overseas pace duo of Dushmantha Chameera and Jason Holder have fared well too. Meanwhile, Krunal Pandya and Ravi Bishnoi have been pretty good too.
On the other hand, GT have been superb throughout this season. The Hardik Pandya-led side have just managed to win every close game they’ve been involved in. They have found a new match-winner in almost every match. Overall, they have eight wins and two losses.
No batter has run away and has had a dominant season so far for GT but quite a few batters have found consistency. Skipper Hardik Pandya may have failed in the last couple of games but he was the one carrying the batting line-up in the first few matches. David Miller and Rahul Tewatia have been superb towards the back end of the innings and they have been critical to a few wins. Shubman Gill’s form might be the only concern for GT.
With the ball, Mohammed Shami has led the way while Lockie Ferguson has fared quite well too. Meanwhile, Rashid Khan may not have really dominated the season but he has been economical and has chipped in nicely with the bat too.

Seven different player of the match awards for GT in eight wins
Mohammad Shami, Lockie Ferguson, Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, David Miller, Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia are the players who have won the man of the match awards for Gujarat this season. These are seven players and GT have won eight games (SRH’s Umran Malik was the player of the match in the other win for GT).
That underlines how GT have played this season. They haven’t really relied on a bunch of players to do the bulk of the heavy-lifting. They have played excellently as a unit and different players have put their hand up in different games during pressure situations.
Avesh Khan’s fitness has been up and down this season and he has missed a couple of games. If he is fit, he is going to walk back into the playing XI for LSG. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya has had a few niggles as well which has stopped him from bowling after the first few matches. Apart from that, GT have no other injury worries.
Lucknow Super Giants vs Gujarat Titans – Match prediction
