Asia Cup will be played in UAE confirms Saurav Ganguly
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that the 2022 Asia Cup T20 will now be held in UAE. Prior to the announcement, the tournament was scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka. However, on 17th July 2022, Sri Lanka Cricket informed the ACC that they will not be able to host the Asia Cup due to the ongoing political and economic distress in the country. Earlier, the SLC had to postpone the third edition of the Lanka Premier League also due to the same reasons. Sourav Ganguly reasoned that UAE is the only place where there will be no rains and hence, will be the right place to host the Asia Cup 2022.

When does the Asia Cup 2022 start?

The tournament is scheduled to begin on 27th August and end on 11th September. No new changes to the initial dates were announced after the BCCI president confirmed the shift to UAE. Hence, as of now, it is safe to consider that the much awaited Asia Cup 2022 will get underway on 27th August.

What is the format of the Asia Cup 2022?

The 2022 Asia Cup will be played in T20 format. In 2016, it was announced that the tournament will follow a rotation of formats. India beat Bangladesh in the 2016 Asia Cup final by 8 wickets to win the first ever T20 format Asia Cup.

How many teams will be participating in the 2022 Asia Cup T20?

A total of 6 teams are expected to compete for the Asia Cup title in UAE. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan are the five confirmed teams. The 6th team will make their way through the Qualifier tournament in August 2022.

Will the Asia Cup have a similar fate like the T20 World Cup?

The 2021 T20 World cup was hosted in UAE soon after the conclusion of IPL. The pitches at the venues played out in a way that favored the team batting second on almost every occasion. Batting was very difficult for the team batting first, whereas, as the second innings progressed, there was nothing for the bowlers in it and the batters easily chased down any total on the board.

It had become a joke! Win the toss, with the match – as simple as that. That was the story of the biggest ICC event in the cricketing calendar. It was a heartbreak for fans and a headache for bettors as the lack of contest between two teams in the second innings meant less attractive odds.

Will UAE be better equipped to host a T20 tournament this time around?

Expectations of a billion fans rest on the shoulders of the organizers of Asia Cup 2022. The stakes are high as fans expect another India vs Pakistan clash. As such, curating good tracks is essential for the success of the 2022 Asia Cup.

India vs Pakistan – Will India avenge the humiliating 10-wicket defeat?

On 24th October 2021, Pakistan defeated India by 10 wickets in the Super 12 stage of T20 World Cup in Dubai. It was India’s first-ever loss to Pakistan in a World Cup.

The nature of the loss was disheartening to say the least and will be etched in the memories of Indian fans forever. Or will India deliver a bigger win against Pakistan in the Asia Cup and create new memories to cherish?

While there is no official schedule as of yet, it is speculated that India and Pakistan will be in the same group.

Parimatch has even offered betting odds for the India vs Pakistan match of the Asia Cup T20.

India are favorites at Parimatch with 1.70 odds while Pakistan, who were unbeaten in UAE for a very long time in T20Is, are priced at 2.16 odds.

Who will win the 2022 Asia Cup?

Looking at the current form, we reckon India and Pakistan to be the leading contenders for the Asia Cup title. Pakistan’s opening pair and their bowling attack is their biggest strength.

Whereas, India’s bench strength is the strongest in world cricket at the moment. India failed to break the opening partnership of Babar and Rizwan in the T20 World Cup which cost them the match and possibly, the World T20 title.

That may not be the case this time around if the pitches are better curated.

Back India to win the Asia Cup at 2.00 odds at Parimatch. India are the undisputed champions of comebacks and will roar their way to victory over their arch rivals.
